Young Aviators Day
Young Aviators Day – 17th September 2011
The young Aviators day is an annual event organised by the Milton Keynes Aviation Society. It is aimed at facilitating young people with the opportunity to gain some experience in how to become a private pilot and let them experience an operational small airfield and perhaps a flight in a light aircraft.
The event takes place by the kind permission of Sywell Aerodrome who waive all landing fees for this event, and this year we were able to secure 18 places from those available for allocation across the catchment area.
The 18 places were allocated 3 per District and were snapped up quickly. It was great to see 18 young Scouts and their Leaders all involved in such a great event.
The day consisted of activities including building a rocket, the great egg smash which should have seen the eggs protected from a fall, phonetic alphabet tasks and guided trips around the hangers. However the icing on the cake was the flights in light aircraft or a helicopter. All of our attendees managed to get a flight despite the poor weather conditions.
All in all a terrific day organised for free by a fantastic group of people.
Our special thanks must go to Andre Faehndrich who is the principal organiser and liaison for the Scouts in Northants.
