Explorers – Sahara Force India F1

ON THURSDAY 9th April nine members of the Pitsford Explorer Scout Unit were treated to a tour of the Sahara Force India F1 team facility adjacent to Silverstone Race Circuit.

This was as part of our programme to show the Explorers some of the vocational opportunities that exist, especially as Northamptonshire is Internationally recognised as the centre for advanced  automotive and motor racing technology.

The level of expertise required to compete at the highest level of the sport was amply demonstrated with a look at the component testing facilities, the racing car simulator and the fabrication shop.

The racing team offers a varied range of careers including  motor mechanic, electronics engineers, designers, marketing, PR and team management.

It was so inspiring that one of the Explorers has said he will seriously consider a career in this field once he has completed his studies.

We were very grateful to the race team for this privileged look behind the scenes.

Explorer Scouts are aged 14-18 years old and are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme and direction of the Unit, with support and guidance from leaders. The section also includes the Young Leaders’ Scheme, where young people are able to take on a leadership role in one of the younger sections. They also take an active part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.
